Natural Habitats around CSU Channel Island – Before and After the 2013 Springs Fire

Professor Steven Norris will discuss the effect of the fire on the native flora Coastal Sage of the Santa Monica Mountains.

The Santa Monica Mountains foothills that surround CSUCI are home to a Chaparral plant community known to botanists as Coastal Sage. 100 species of native flora were identified in native plant surveys starting in 2003. The 2013 Springs Fire was like setting the restart button. This talk will summarize the work conducted in
natural habitats around CSUCI and the effect of the Springs Fire.
Observations on the early stages of the post-fire recovery will be offered.
