The Deadline for this year’s   Art Tales competition is March 1, 2011.  A link to download guidelines can be found below.

On Sunday, October 17, E.P. Foster Library participated in  the Harvest Art Walk with “Foster Fun @ the Library”. Over  1,000 people dropped by between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.  Children’s art was on display in the upstairs children’s library and arts and crafts activities were available all afternoon.

The winner of the Art Tales competition for 2010 Youth Division, Sofia Felino read her story The Synesthete.

The Friends of the Library provided refreshments for the rare treat of snacking in the library.  Therapy dogs from the “Paws for Reading” program helped pick up crumbs.

In the Topping Room, visitors could watch historical home movies of the library.  Local authors Don Borchert and Alexis O’ Neill spoke about writing.   The day wrapped up with an open mic poetry reading and presentation of the Art Tales winners, adult category.

The City of Ventura, in partnership with E.P. Foster Library, announced the third annual “Art Tales,” a unique contest for creative writers that is open to all Ventura County residents. For guidelines visit www.cityofventura.net/ArtTales.

To enter, submit a short story or poem by March 1, 2011, inspired by one of the Municipal Art Collection works of art currently on loan to the E.P. Foster Library, 651 E Main St.  One of these works is pictured here:  October:  Waiting for El Nino  by Connie Jenkins.
