During the month of October,  Ventura County Library is partnering with the Ventura County Arts Council to offer a poetry contest for adults. The theme is “The First Time.”  Adults are invited to submit up to three poems about the times in their lives that marked beginnings, transitions, or new ways of thinking and being, each of which may be up to 30 lines. The last day for submissions is Oct. 31.

Poetery contest entries will be judged by members of the Ventura County Arts Council, which include widely published poets, publishers, and creative writing teachers.  Winners will be contacted in the second week of November and will be invited to present their poem as an honored guest at a public reading.  Prizes will include Visa gift cards, a copy of a County Laureate’s volume of poetry, and a set of broadsides of the winning poems.

To submit entries, fasten together five copies of each poem along with name and contact information on a separate piece of paper.  Turn in entries to E.P. Foster Library by October 31.
