Spring Book Sale at the Mall

The Book Sale at the Mall on March 19 raised nearly $3,300 for Ventura’s two City Libraries.

What an energetic and diligent group of volunteers!  Once again the Foothill students handled most of the work with customers at the cashier station.

Getting everything into the Center Court from a distant loading dock was a lot of work, but, well . . . there was much, much less to haul back to the warehouse.  Thanks to the whole crew of box and table wranglers.

This sale showed us the best success ever, for example, with children’s books—of the ten boxes of children’s books presented for sale, only two boxes remained at the end.  And for all categories, we sold many, many books and returned an astonishing number of empty boxes to the warehouse.

Yesterday we saw more people browsing through then we’ve ever seen at a sale before.  So perhaps it’s better for the Friends as a group to “Fly our flag” around town, rather than just at the libraries.  Initially that will be a challenge for us, but it would expose more and more local residents to our interests and activities.

In keeping with this spirit, our next Book Sale will take place at the Sports Park, off Kimball Road, on Saturday, May 21.
