One County One Book 2026
Daughters of the Sun and Moon by Lisa See
The Ventura County Library’s One County, One Book initiative is designed to unite the community through a shared reading experience.
Lisa See’s novel is set In 1870 as three Chinese women arrive in the small pueblo of Los Angeles during a period of rampant anti-Chinese sentiment. They are brought together by hardship and heartbreak, and they must use their bravery, endurance, and ability to “eat bitterness” to discover their voices, find freedom, and connect through solace and friendship.Print editions will be available to borrow at Ventura County Library branches. Digital eBook and eAudio editions will also be available.

The Program will culminate in a special appearance by author Lisa See at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 10 at the Pavilion at the Museum of Ventura County.

E.P. Foster Library Renovations
The E.P. Foster Library in downtown Ventura is temporarily closed for renovation.
On the construction front, significant milestones have already been reached. Asbestos remediation was completed, a critical step that cleared the way for demolition, and HVAC ductwork installation is now officially underway.Nancy Schram has reported that an important infrastructure milestone has been reached in August: new sewer lines have been installed to serve the library’s downstairs restrooms.
As with any excavation project, the work has followed proper Cultural Resource Management (CRM) protocols. A tribal monitor was on site throughout the digging process to help protect any cultural resources that might be encountered. No exciting finds were unearthed.
With this phase complete, renovation work continues to move forward.
At our Annual Membership Meeting, Nancy Schram will be our guest speaker, so come and hear the latest about the renovations. Our Annual Meeting is usually held on a Sunday. However, with the
