Linda Kapala, SBFOL member and volunteer, is offering a valuable resource for college-bound high school students.
College Planning Workshops at E.P. Foster Library are designed to help students and parents navigate the complicated waters of the college application process.
Juniors and their families attended the first workshop in May of last year. Workshop 1 was an overview of the college application process with emphasis on helping students use the balance of their junior year and the summer to create a list of colleges that would be a ‘fit’ for them. Workshop 2 concentrated on a variety of topics such as refining college fit, how important is college ranking, making the most of visits with college representatives and so forth. In between workshops, the participants receive newsletters dealing with topics of interest.
The current set of workshops will explore college applications, scholarships, finanacing college, gap years and more. The workshops are timed to coincide with where the students should be in their college application process.
Workshops are free and open to any parent and student in the Tri Counties. The next workshop dates are October 9th, November 6th, and December 4th from 6:30 p.m. – approximately 9 p.m. Participants should bring a highlighter and pen.
