Tuesday, May 7 – 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm

You are invited to Ventura County Library’s Mobile Library launch and ribbon cutting event at the Ventura County Government Center outside courtyard (between the Hall of Administration and Hall of Justice buildings).

Ventura County Library boasts having the first mobile service in California, dating back to 1924 when Elizabeth Topping, then County Librarian, loaded saddlebags on horseback to deliver books throughout the county.  Almost a century later, Ventura County Library’s modern day Mobile Library hits the road offering a full range of library services, including popular materials for all ages and in multiple formats such as books, DVDs, and audiobooks. The Mobile Library comes equipped with free Wi-Fi, wireless printing, laptop lending, and 3D Printing.

The Mobile Library serves communities with collections that include materials for children, teens, adults, and seniors in English and Spanish. Playing an important outreach role, the Mobile Library is connecting new users and raising awareness of library services throughout the county.  It provides service to the underserved areas where many people have little or no library service due to lack of transportation or mobility issues (preventing residents from easy access to library buildings).
